New York City, also known as The Big Apple, is the most populous and densely populated city in the United States. In 2016, there are more than 8.5 million people living in New York City. To put this number into perspective, the entire population of the country New Zealand is less than 5 million. A lot of New Yorkers, people who live in New York, originally come from many places in the world. They have immigrated to New York since the 19th century. Immigrants, making up approximately 36 percent of the population, have long been a focal point of New York’s history. They have contributed greatly to the unique and deverse culture of the city.
