Exercise 5: Choose the correct verb forms in italics.

My first ever job interview didn’t go very well. I wish I (1) had done / did a lot of things differently. First of all, I (2) should check / should have checked exactly where I was supposed to go. If I (3) would have / had, I wouldn’t have gone to the wrong metro station. If I (4) didn’t / hadn’t done that, I (5) might have / might have had a chance of arriving on time. In fact, I was over twenty minutes late. They (6) must have thought / must thought I wasn’t very keen to get the job. I learnt my lesson, though, because I knew that if (7) I’d been / I was better prepared, I (8) could get / could have got the job. And I did get one in the end, with another company, and I love my work.
