According to legend, jack-o’-lantern protects people in their homes from ghostly spirits.

Many children dress up as movie characters or a favourite superhero. But Halloween is not just for children. Many adults enjoy showing off their costumes at Halloween parties.

Food supplies often ran low and, for the many people afraid of the dark, the short days of winter were full of constant worry.
